Phase ONE, founded in 1999, is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that is committed to supporting Phase I clinical trial research and treatment programs for patients with cancer.
Who is at risk of developing cancer? Anyone. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. Over 1,250,000 new cancer cases will be diagnosed in 2003, and 600,000 Americans will die of cancer - 1500 people a day. Men have a 1 in 2 lifetime risk and women have a 1 in 3 lifetime risk of developing cancer.
Phase ONE hopes its efforts will aid in the fight against cancer, by finding treatments that will transform what might be a terminal illness into one where patients can live a full and productive life. It is Phase ONE's belief that patients should be able to live fully with cancer as a chronic illness, just as do others with diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
Phase ONE has been involved in funding clinical trial studies of drugs now approved and used internationally in the treatment of cancer, and will continue to support cancer research in the Los Angeles community, and ultimately all over the world.
The Vision
Phase ONE's goal is to aid in the successful treatment of cancer NOW by:
- Offering hope to the patient today who has been told there is nothing left
- Allowing patients in our community to have access to whatever types of therapy may be available around the world
- Laying the groundwork for larger scale multi-center research that can set new standards of oncology care
- Supporting the development of novel technologies that will allow treatments to be more targeted and accessible more quickly for patients
- Ensuring that those diagnosed with cancer in the future will have even safer and more effective treatments enabling them to live long lives with their disease
The Goal
Phase ONE has only just begun, and will continue to support research and clinical trials that will benefit cancer patients. Phase ONE is on "The Road to Curing Cancer".
